Sevilla boss Pablo Machin was relieved that his side equalised with Wissam Ben Yedder stoppage time goal saying “It was about waiting for our moment” against Leganes with Mikel Vesga scoring on the fifth minute.
“The team has shown again that they are together and we have compensated for Mudo‘s bad behaviour as we looked for our moment”. Machin was quoted by Marca
“With Wissam [Ben Yedder]‘s instinct, we take a point which I don’t know if it feels like a win, but it shows that this team has soul and courage to draw where Barcelona lost.”
The coach went on to explain that he is still unsure of exactly what happened to see the midfielder sent off.
“I found out about everything in the dressing room, it surprised me enormously,” he admitted.
“I’m sure that Mudo thought, quite correctly, that it could have been a second yellow for [Allan] Nyom, that’s why their coach took him off after, but it’s not an excuse to lose your nerve and say something to get sent off.
“We can’t afford the luxury of someone who doesn’t think and is a burden to the team.”
Instead, the team were forced to remain patient and look for a winner, which eventually came through Ben Yedder‘s equaliser.
“It was about waiting for our moment, if we went crazy, we would have made it easy for Leganes,” Machin insisted.
“We had to wait to be able to surprise them on the counter or go crazy at the end, in that Russian roulette where anyone can score, it’s the only way to take anything positive and it worked.”
