Wolfsburg sink Stuttgart to relegation zone

Vfl Wolfsburg continued their revival moving to the Europa league positions with a 2-0 win at home against Stuttgart in the Tuesday Bundesliga match after survival last season via the relegation playoffs.
The Wolves struck from a headed corner with Joshua Guilavogui and Wout Weghorst mazy dribble in the box to shoot past Ron Robert Zierler before the first half break.
Wolfsburg head coach Bruno Labbadia: “It’s a very nice win. We really wanted to maintain momentum and send our home fans into the winter break with a win. We managed that”.
“We tried not to let Stuttgart into the game and even though we didn’t score any more goals in the second half, we defended well and gave them few chances. It was a great team performance and it’s a great feeling to have 25 points on the board. We can all be pleased about that”.
“The fans produced a great display beforehand, too – that gave me goosebumps. We now intend to recover and give everything again on Sunday in Augsburg.”
Stuttgart head coach Markus Weinzierl: “We actually started quite well. We helped the opponents at the set-piece because we weren’t organized – even though we knew before the game that they’re good in the air.
“For the second goal we gave them a helping hand, too, and it’s tough when you’re 2-0 down. We didn’t manage to find a way back or get a goal in the second period. From that point of view, VfL fully deserve the win.”
