Alvaro Morata sixth straight goal for earns Atletico 3-1 win

Spain- Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata matched scored his sixth consecutive goal to match departed Antoine Griezmann in a 3-1 win over Espanyol in La Liga Santander today.

Atletico had had a barren run with no win in three games with the 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in their last fixture despite that they have kept in touch with the top of La Liga.

The emerging partnership between Morata and Angel Correa was flourishing and restored parity from a cross with the latter heading home after Sergi Darder had given Pablo Machin side the lead seven minutes earlier from a long-range strike.

Morata equalled Griezmann accolade on 58 minutes to send the Wanda Metropolitano crowd into a frenzy with Koke striking in stoppage time to seal the win that sees Atleti move into third with 24 points one behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Simeone praised our team’s improvement and consistency following Sunday’s 3-1 win over Espanyol.

“Today we improved over the course of 90 minutes. We defended well and their goal made us stronger. We found consistency in this game, which is what we lacked in other matches. We’re becoming more of a team every day,” the Argentine told the club website.
