France- Claude Puel’s Saint Etienne fought back twice before grabbing the winner in a 3-2 win over Nantes to move into the top three in Ligue 1 despite late arrival from their Europa League encounter in Ukraine.
Saint Etienne since Puel’s appointment have been on an upward revival with the club in the relegation zone and was unbeaten in six-game heading to high flying Nantes who took the lead from Ludovic Blas from Christian Benavante’s assist.
However, the visitors hit back with Miguel Trauco netting an equalizer eight minutes later on 22 minutes from a header but went 2-1 down four minutes later from Imran Louza’s effort with Trauco equalising again with ten minutes before the break.
Denis Bounga netted the winner on 67 minutes with his boss pleased with the effort of his side.
Claude Puel after the 3-2 success against Nantes said: “I am satisfied with our course but I think first of all the week we have just had a very complicated week.
“We returned at 6 am on Friday (after the Europa League match in Oleksandria, Ukraine) and played two and a half days later. These are very t tough matches, and I am very happy. I enjoyed the mood of the group, we set rotated the squad to keep them fresh, I did it before. It allows to involve a large number of players and it is important for the dynamics.
“We managed to take advantage and keep the result, which we did not manage to do in Ukraine. I like to see this group progress and if, in addition, we get to take points to accompany this progression, it gives a good climate in the group. The rankings are good, but we are lucid. There are still steps to go, we had success but we went looking for it, by self-sacrifice, solidarity. “
