Manchester United have gone ahead and triggered forward Anthony Martial contract for another year as they look to tie him to another long-term deal.
The Manchester forward contract was set to be ending in the summer but will now be extended to 2020 for the Frenchman who joined the club as the most expensive teenager under Louis Van Gaal before Kylian Mbappe £166 million move to PSG blew that record out of the water.
Jose Mourinho was also open to the 23-year-old to leave in the summer transfer window, for his attitude during the summer leaving the club’s pre-season tour in the USA to attend the birth of his second child, Martial has been one of the key figures in United’s attack with eight goals in all competitions so far this season.
However, the club hierarchy wouldn’t sanction the sale of Martial following his move in 2015 for an initial fee of £36 million which could potentially rise to £57.6 million deeming the youngster a valuable asset to the club.
