Makoto Hasebe and Marco Russ extend contracts

Makoto Hasebe and Marco Russ have both extended their contract with Eintracht Frankfurt for another year with their extensions stretching their deals to 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Hasebe currently is the most Japanese player to have made most Bundesliga appearances (currently 271)was named as international footballer of the year by the Asian Football Confederation for 2018.
“Even at the age of 34, Makoto has shown so far this season that he can still be a leading figure in the team,” said board member Fredi Bobic. “He has been a major factor in our solid defence.”
“I’ve come to feel at home in Frankfurt and at Eintracht,” said Hasebe. “I’m pleased to be able to be part of this wonderful team for another year. We have big plans and I’d really like to be part of them.”
On Russ extension
“Marco is a Frankfurt institution who has experienced a huge amount with the club,” said board member Fredi Bobic. “He’s an important role model for lots of young players with his immense experience, and he plays an important role as a local boy in our international squad.” He told the club website
“Marco has shown in recent games, like the one against Lazio, that he still has a lot to offer us on the pitch,” commented sporting director Bruno Hübner.
“We can rely on him and we’re pleased that he’ll be with us again next season.” The 33-year-old, who has scored 24 goals in 303 Bundesliga appearances, is delighted to have extended his stay.
“We have a great team and it’s really enjoyable to play with these guys,” he said. “We have big ambitions and I want to continue to contribute to that.”
