RB Leipzig striking duo of Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen each bagged a brace as they swept Mainz 05 4-1 in the Bundesliga to keep in touch with the champions league place.
Leipzig were looking to banish the Thursday disappointment of not getting over the line in the Europa league and Poulsen toe-poked Kevin kampl cross from the right and five minutes later turned in Werner’s low cross before Karim Onisiwo got a consolation with the German forward was slipped in by Demme after robbing Mainz the ball and rounding the keeper before finishing off with a curling shot in the closing minutes.
Ralph Rangnick was pleased with the mental attitude of his players:
“It was the expected hard game for us, against a rested opponent with a lot of quality in his ranks. There were stages in the game where we had a hard time, but also where we got our football on the field very well. The fact that we appear three days after the disappointing result against Rosenberg as today against Mainz, speaks for our mentality and attitude”.
