Frankfurt Paciencia brace sinks Leverkusen
Eintracht Frankfurt were on top form with a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga to leapfrog Werkself on goal difference with Goncalo Paciencia netting a brace.
Goncalo Paciencia netted a first-half brace with one a penalty at the Commerzbank-Arena, with Bas Dost also on target after the Portuguese clever flick put in the Dutch striker, to help Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Matchday 8.
Speaking to the media Frankfurt Head coach Adi Hütter: “I’m really happy about today’s win. The first half was definitely our best of the campaign so far. We put a lot of emotion into the game and deserved to win. We also need to thank Frederik Rönnow, who became a father yesterday and put in a brilliant performance in goal today.”
Man of the match Goncalo Paciencia added: “There’s always a lot of focus on the strikers, which is why I’m happy to have scored two goals again today. We’re all really happy for Freddy – he’s been through a difficult time. His daughter has only just been born, but he had an exceptional game today.”
Leverkusen had their share of chances to edge out their hosts but were denied constantly from substitute keeper Rönnow who saved 10 shots on his goal, equalling the record for this season set by Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Zack Steffen.
Frederik Rönnow added: “It’s a very emotional day for me today because my baby was born yesterday at six in the morning and I didn’t get much sleep at all. It all makes me even happier about the win and our performance today. I’m just pleased and proud at the moment – it was very emotional. I’ve always trained hard, waiting for the moment when I’d be needed. That moment finally came today.”
