Real Madrid squeeze past Rayo

Real Madrid continued with their unimpressive play with a slim 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga with Karim Benzema finding the net for Los Merengues.
Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric also got the opportunity before the start of the match to paraded the gong in front of Madrid’s fans before kick-off, ending CR7 and Messi reign.
Los Blancos went ahead with Benzema quickly notching the lead when he latched on to Lucas Vazquez’s slide-rule pass in the Rayo box and slotted a finish past goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski for the sixth goal of the season.
Marco Asensio should have added a second with a one-on-one blocked by Dimitrievski, yet Rayo should have had the ball in the net after Alex Galvez, who sent a free header wide from a corner wasted his chance.
Rayo Vallecano coach Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz praised the work of his players in the second half, although he acknowledged that the lack of success of his team in the final meters was decisive.
