Jadon Sancho proves worth in Dortmund
Jadon Sancho was the difference for Dortmund after netting twice in the Bundesliga in the 2-1 win over Mainz at the Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund had come off a thumping from Bayern Munich which took the Bavarian into the top of the Bundesliga in the top of the table clash and needed a response against a woeful Mainz side.
Mario Götze was on hand to hand the English international a chance to open the scoring as he took down a long ball from full-back Marius Wolf on his chest and picked out Sancho perfectly at the far post for his 9th Bundesliga goal of the season.
Sancho added the second six minutes later as the Dortmund English winger quickly took that tally into double figures to 10 goals when he turned home a low Thomas Delaney cross.
Mainz added the nerves of the Dortmund faithful with Robin Quaison finding the net from a loose ball in the box with just over five minutes remaining.
The brace from Sancho made the winger a record breaker becoming the youngest Dortmund player in history to score 10 goals in a Bundesliga season.
Jadon Sancho: ”I’m really happy about my two goals. It was really important for the team to get the three points today. We had to bounce back after the heavy defeat last week. We worked really hard in training all week.”
