Frankfurt snatch late win with Luka Jovic penalty
Eintracht Frankfurt moved five points clear with a win over Schalke in the race for champions league qualification with Luka Jovic stoppage-time penalty.
Frankfurt was unbeaten in 14 games in all competitions and last weekend had climbed into the top four of the Bundesliga while Schalke has been having a miserable time with just two points from the relegation spots.
Frankfurt took the lead early on in the 13th minute as Filip Kostic’s through pass sliced through the Schalke defense and found Ante Rebic, who still had work to do and finished in spectacular style rounding Alexander Nübel to stab into the empty net.
Shalke found their response eight minutes later with Suat Sedar banging in a parried effort by Kevin Trapp from a free-kick that Breel Embolo spilled at the left far post for the equalizer.
Frankfurt grabbed their winner in a crazy few minutes as Sedar was handed a red card in stoppage time and Caligiuri conceded a penalty a couple of minutes later for a handball and Jovic stepped forward to lash it into the roof of the net.
