Gor Mahia eight points clear after 3-2 win over Stubborn Sony
Gor Mahia had to come back twice to overcome a stubborn Sony Sugar side before sealing a 3-2 win at the Awendo Stadium.
Gor Coach Hassan Oktay has once again rotated his squad owing to the tight fixtures and after taking control of the Kenya Premier League with wins over Kariobangi Sharks and Nzoia Sugar.
Sony Sugar were coming off the back of a loss to Ulinzi Stars losing 2-1 after back to back wins before that loss as they stagnate in the middle part of the league.
Gor Mahia who had defeated Sony Sugar in the last three games in a row were stunned as former K’Ogalo striker Enock Agwanda opened the scoring on 25 minutes.
Hassan Oktay’s side, however, was quick to restore parity with Jaques Tuyisenge leveling the game three minutes later for the Kenya Premier League side defending champions.
But the hosts were not giving in without a fight with Nyatini restoring the lead three minutes later in a see-saw battle between the sides.
Samuel Onyango was on hand to bring the side into parity on 38 minutes of the game and turned the game on its head from the penalty spot with ten minutes left in the tie through Nicholas Kipkirui.
The win moves Gor Mahia eight points clear of the Kenya Premier League with Bandari and Sofapaka on their tails on the same amount of games(19).
Gor Mahia will next be hosting Bandari in the KPL in a top of the league clash with the CAF Confederation tie against Berkane on Saturday while Sony on the eighth position with 28 points playing Posta Rangers away.
