Bayer Leverkusen ease past 10 man Union Berlin
Bayer Leverkusen put away their heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund as they coasted past Union Berlin 2-0 victory at the BayArena thanks to goals from Kevin Volland and Lucas Alario in the Bundesliga.
Leverkusen were coming back from a thumping 4-0 loss to Dortmund in the Bundesliga and 2-1 to Lokomotiv in the UEFA Champions League at home and were looking for a response to kee in touch with the to tablers.
Bosz side were denied early on after Lucas Alario goal was ruled out for offside after Kevin Volland was deemed to be interfering with play.
Volland, however, made amends shortly afterward, firing a low drive past Rafal Gikiewicz for 1-0 after a lucky deflection off Christopher Trimmel that fell to the striker.
Alario was not to be denied a second time getting on the scoresheet five minutes later following Wendell’s defensive play, picking out the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Union coach Urs Fischer second-half plans run a cropper, making all three of his substitutions by the hour mark as one of the subs Sebastian Polter was sent off within three minutes of coming on, for a reckless tackle on Julian Baumgartlinger.
