Sampdoria eyed by Russian investors
According to La Repubblica, an American group were in talks with Ferrero over a €100m buy-out, with former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli said to become the president.
Sampdoria Owner Massimo Ferrero speaking last month on the issue denied the amount being mooted about and revealed he was silent on the matter.
“Sampdoria is not for sale, not for those figures,” he told reporters. “It’s just people who want to gain attention.
“When you want to buy a team, you do it in silence. No speculation, just as I did when I bought Sampdoria and nobody knew until the announcement.”
Massimo Ferrero has now turned on the pressure on prospective buyers with interest from a Russian consortium which in turn had given an ultimatum to the York Capital fund to conclude the sale of Sampdoria.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, the Sampdoria owner has shown interest in Serie A side AS Roma saying frequent utterances about an interest in taking over Roma: ” It was a heartfelt response. I was born in Testaccio and I support Rome, but my company is Sampdoria and defend my interests”.
