Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz hand Leverkusen win at Hannover
The away side scored the first on 13 minutes with the first dangerous cross from Julian Brandt gets free in the penalty area, but goalkeeper Michael Esser was powerless to stop the ball going to Kevin Volland for a tap in.
Brandt slipped in Volland on the 28th minute to chip the keeper for a 2-0 lead but the home side pulled one back via Genki Haraguchi crosses from the left into the box, where Jonathas lurking finished off.
Nurenberg persistence was rewarded on 73 minutes from a Florent Muslija free kick in front of goal, that Hendrik Weydandt headed, but Lukas Hradecky parried directly to the thigh Mitchell Weisers, for an own goal.
Leverkusen got the winner on 87 minutes with a Juliann Brandt dinked cross for Kai Havertz to head for the win with Karim Bellarabi denied a fourth for Werkself for an offside.
Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky clearly exhausted after the final whistle. “After Nürnberg, that’s the second time this season we’ve experienced very unusual weather conditions. Fortunately, we fought back really well after it was 2-2. Today it was more a case of snowballs and sometimes it looked like a comedy,” said the keeper to the club website.
