Inter Milan stop Serie A rot with a 2-0 late win
Inter Milan grabbed crucial points in the race for champions league football after slipping down the Serie A with a late 2-0 win over SPAL at the Giuseppe Meazza on March 10, 2019.
Inter were coming off the Europa League 0-0 clash with Eintracht Frankfurt and a loss at Cagliari that had the chasing pack close them down for a champions league spot while rivals AC Milan had overtaken them moving them to the fourth spot.
Issues between the club and with striker Mauro Icardi had been on the headlines but his deputy Lautaro Martinez has been holding the fort with impressive performances and was denied early on in the game via VAR for a handball.
However, Matteo Politano grabbed the opener with a strike from a quick turn and shot with Cedric Soares setting up Roberto Gagliardini for the second on 77 minutes.
Luciano Spalletti told after the 2-0 win over SPAL to Sky Sports Italia said: “We have the fire inside, we have also shown in the Cup, but sometimes its’nt there just a little ” said the Nerazzurri coach.
” After the goal, Gagliardini has become another player, Dalbert, Joao Mario … They all had another conviction, they came back in possession of their characteristics, their qualities, they are called emotions, not shyness. Fear of making decisions is an interesting thing: this happens to us every now and then, which is dragged into a different reason for analysis and the players have less peace of mind in going to practice their work. I can see certain things, I think of Dalbert, who will become a great player, and in the second half he let his leg go and he ‘split’ the left wing . “
