Guingamp survived a late penalty to draw 0-0 against Nantes in Ligue 1 with Valentin Rongier the culprit as the relegation battlers grabbed a vital point.
In a dull game with little to raise the temperature Nicolas Benezet the vital moment of the game came when Eboa Eboa was adjudged to have handled the ball after Rongier was clean through on goal but the forward was denied by Marc-Aurele Caillard.
Vahid Halilhodzic (coach of Nantes after the draw at Guingamp ): “We did not see a game today, we did not want to lose the game, especially not 1-0. In preparation for this game, I knew there would be opportunities, especially in the second half, to score a goal. We had this opportunity in the last second of the match.
“It’s a pity victory was there to be taken but the goalkeeper saved his penalty. Good for Guingamp, too bad for us.
“This is the first time the VAR was favourable to us with a gift, we are not accustomed to it.
“Our second-half performance was more ambitious, more enterprising in the attacking phase, but it was prepared because we knew that Guingamp scored most of their goals in the second half.
“But we did not have the technical quality in the final third or the cutting edge to score tonight. “
