Real Madrid lack of goal threat dents El Classico hopes
3 March 2019 GMT
Real Madrid were undone in El Classico with the side offering no real goal threat succumbing to the second defeat in a row against Barcelona with Ivan Rakitic.
A team with experienced campaigners such as Gareth Bale Karim Benzema and one of the best midfield in world football despite criticism of the middle of the pack losing its legs due to age.
The most notable and evident in Los Blancos play was that all of the good football that Solari‘s side displays came from the left wing youngsters, left-back Sergio Reguilon and inside forward Vinicius Junior.
Gareth Bale left out on the Copa del Rey second leg loss as brought into the starting line-up on Saturday after his histrionics at Levante now look sorry after refusing to celebrate scoring from the penalty yet had little to no effect after a blistering start at the start of the season under Julen Lopetegui.
Surprisingly goalkeeper Thibault Courtois seems to havê noticed the deficiencies of the squad claiming the team lacks a cutting edge in the final third.
“To win these games you have to score, but we’ve lacked that in both matches,” he admitted in the mixed zone.
“We weren’t able to make that final pass.
“They also saved clear chances, the ball didn’t want to go in.”
Real Madrid’s lethal touch has come from Karim Benzema increasing his goal tally this season while Gareth Bale latest goal was from from the penalty spot against Levante.
Solari’s side have scored 23 goals less than LaLIGA leaders Barcelona in LaLiga Santander this season and 26 goals fewer this campaign than the club averaged in the years that Cristiano Ronaldo last season.
Furthermore, Bale, Marco Asensio, and pariah Isco‘s contributions have fallen; the latter creative potentiality reduced due to lack of game time under Solari, leaving crossing as their main avenue in the last two games.
These deficiencies will have to be ignored for the moment with the transfer window looking to resolve the issues to creativity and a potent goal scorer.
