Alaves dreams of champions league continued with a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Villarreal with Japanese midfielder Takashi Inui netting the winner.

The win moves Alaves to fourth on 40 points with Getafe, Sevilla and Betis trailing them with games in hand as for Villarreal lie three points off safety in LaLiga.

Guillermo Maripan headed in from Jony’s corner after he was left alone in the penalty box but Santi Cazorla put El Submarine level from the penalty spot after Manu Garcia was penalized for handball but Inui scored turned Jony cutback for the winner with ten minutes left.

Villarreal coach Javi Calleja lamented on the Submarine’s defeat against Deportivo Alavés (1-2): “We had high hopes for today’s game. A victory took us out of relegation places, but we have not been comfortable.

“We did not distribute the ball fast and we did not find spaces. The team has not taken that step forward to get something positive. A victory is what most interested us. ”

“It has cost us in offensive aspects to find the balance. There were plays that came to the area, but we did not get anything. ”

“We had high hopes of getting the three points and leaving the relegation zone. LaLiga is not over and we have to keep fighting. Our duty is to get up, keep working and fight until the end. ”
