Gor Mahia moved to second in the Sportpesa Kenyan Premier League with 10 men against visiting Tusker FC 1-0 in a clash staged at the Kenyatta Stadium-Machakos.
Tusker should have taken the lead early on after Timothy Otieno quickly taken free-kick to David Juma but with only the K’Ogalo keeper Boniface Oluoch to beat, Juma decided to square the ball to John Kamau who could only hit the post wasting a glorious chance.
Sirkal’s defence went to sleep as a combination between Charles Momanyi and keeper Oluoch lost the ball to the alert Juma and passed it to Kevin Omondi to tee up Otieno but his shot was too weak to trouble the keeper.
The Brewers were handed a man advantage on 23 minutes as Olouch was given his marching orders for handling the ball outside the box as Robert Matano’s charges went on the counter and the Green army was left frustrated as Hassan Oktay’s was forced to make an early substitution with George Odhiambo going out for Shaban Odhoji.
Despite Tusker’s numerical advantage, it was Gor Mahia who looked more dangerous through the entire game and come the second half were rewarded with a 57th-minute lead as Nicholas Kipkurui rose the highest and head past the Tusker keeper from Samuel Onyango from a corner kick.
Gor Mahia move second in the Kenya Premier league on 29 points same as Mathare United and are two points off Bandari FC as Tusker are fourth on 25 points after two losses in a row.
