Newcastle end Burnley’s eight game run in EPL
Newcastle United ended Burnley’s eight-game unbeaten run in the premier league with a 2-0 defeat against Rafa Benitez Newcastle side.
Burnley were coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday but was facing a Magpies side that was on a mini-run with a three-game unbeaten run in the EPL.
The Magpies opened the scoring form a stunner from Switzerland defender Fabian Schar who set Rafael Benitez’s side on the way to a fourth win in six league games with a strike from around 30 yards which went in off the post to the top near side of the net on 24 minutes.
Newcastle United added the second after the Clarets failed to clear Matt Ritchie’s cross and 21-year-old academy graduate Sean Longstaff pounced inside the box for his first league goal for the club with a half volley.
The goalscorer Longstaff speaking to BTSport was overwhelmed with notching his first goal for his home club and said:
“It was going to be tough and in the first half we took the chances that came our way and second half we kept them to a minimum, it’s a good night overall.
“I say it every day, I’m very lucky to be in this position.” “I’m living the dream, and to score here tops it off.”
