Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has emphasized that he’s pleased with the improvement of his side defending following a month of defensive blunders and lopsided results that have brought the manager under pressure.
“Sunday, we did a wonderful match because it’s very difficult not to concede anything to the best team in Europe in the offensive phase. I am the coach, so I have to value my team’s performance.”
Asked on his side deficiencies following the defeat at Tottenham that seemed to unravel his side with pressure bearing on him after a woeful February, losing to Arsenal, Bournemouth and Manchester City Sarri said
“Because, at the beginning, we had more enthusiasm I think, so we were able to remedy some mistakes. And then we played without enthusiasm for a period.
“Probably we were only tired, mentally. And, of course, I think that in the defensive movement we are better now… of course, if we don’t stop to defend… in the match at Manchester against City, we stopped defending.
“But now we are improving, especially in the defensive phase in the last two matches. If we are able to have a great solidity in the defensive phase, we will be able to find consistency.”
