CSKA Moscow took the lead on 37 minutes after Fedor Chalov brilliant run into the Los Blancos box and perfectly passed on the edge of the penalty area to Arnor Sigurdsson, who then produced a nice strike into the left side of the goal beating Courtois.
The away side added the second six minutes later as Georgi Schennikov latched into the ball from a Manuel Fernandes shot that spurned off Courtois after a one-two on the edge of the area with Chalov slipped in Fernandes for a shot.
The second half saw Santiago Solari put Gareth Bale into the fray with Vinicius looking dangerous on the right wing but provided no end product with his best effort whizzing past the post to go out of play.
