The Wolves took the lead from Jerome Roussillon pass from the wing for Josip Brekalo to slip the ball between the near post and the keeper for an 11th-minute lead.

Gladbach let in the home side into the game as Brooks attempt to play out of trouble lead to Florian Niederlechner stealing the ball off him and played in Vincenzo Grifo to finish on 37 minutes.

Bruno Labbadia’s side struck from a penalty on 62 minutes from Robin Koch conceded a penalty and Wout Weghorst planted the ball into the back of the net but were again pegged back by Nils Petersen thumping header from a corner kick by Grifo.

Barely four minutes later than Wolfsburg struck again after Renato Steffen scored the third only for Gian-Luca Waldschmidt to level and thought they won it on the last minute of regulation time.

But Dominique Heintz goal for Freiburg didn’t count as it has been disallowed due to offside on the advice of the video assistant referee.

Monchengladbach head coach Bruno Labbadia: “Both teams today have shown unbelievable passion.

“We had great respect for this game due to the midweek games week. He told the club website

“Then we not only created really nice goals but we were so superior that we did not stand a chance with the exception of the three Freiburg goals.

“This result feels weird because I can hardly blame the team.

” But Freiburg will not be able to do it differently because of the not given goal at the end.

“I just have to say that’s why I love football that wa, because such games can come out of it”.

Freiburg head coach Christian Streich: I can only agree: It was a great, competitive game.

For, us it was extremely difficult due to the three arrears. Great that we came back like this. And it’s a pity that we could not turn the thing completely,

we would have needed such a moment. But even, so this game gives us energy, because after 86 minutes, of course, I would have signed the draw. Big compliment to Bruno and his team.

The VfL has a brutally strong team that is well organized. Already the whole season I like to watch the games of the VfL.
