Hertha Berlin dent Gladbach title ambitions
Hertha Berlin handed a blow to Borussia Monchengladbach title ambitions with a 3-0 win after the DFB Pokal defeat against Bayern in midweek for Pai Dardai’s side.
Hertha coming off the back of a 3-2 defeat in extra time by Bayern didn’t hang about with Salomon Kalou finishing his beautiful individual effort with a superb strike from inside the box feigning and dribbling past two defenders and beat Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer.
The away side struck again on 56 minutes after Davie Selke solo effort on the wing found himself in the box and cut back for Ondrej Duda to sidefoot into the back of the net.
On 76 minutes the third came with Davie Selke this time on the end of the goal as he peeled away from his marker to meet the resulting free kick from Ondrej Duda and score.
Herta BSC Dardai speaking after the 3-0 win over Gladbach: “Congratulations to the team! Importantly, we didn’t moan about the 120 minutes against Bayern but stayed focused. We defended well and focused. Almost like in handball, there were a lot of tight spaces.

“The first goal throughwas an outstanding individual performance that said: “We can do this”! In half-time 2 we then countered Gladbach. That was a deserved win today. Gladbach had mental pressure, we took advantage of that fragility.”
Gladbach boss Dieter: “We had a good initial phase but missed out on taking our chances. After 0:1, we became impatient. We then stayed too much in the interstices and made it easier for Hertha to defend.
“After the break, we really wanted to make the equaliser, but then we were caught on the counter. We have to do that better, but we can also do that better. The bottom line is it’s a deserved defeat.”
