Espanyol grab last minute winner over Rayo with Wu Lei debut
RCD Espanyol grabbed a 2-1 stoppage-time winner over Rayo Vallecano for their first win in five games with Chinese striker Wu Lei making a debut.
The start of the match started with both sides falling victim to VAR as Rayo’s 11th-minute goal by Adri Embarba was chalked off and eight minutes later Sergi Darder has a goal ruled out for offside in the opening exchanges.
However, Abdoulaye Ba rose highest to connect with a cross inside the six-yard box and his well-placed header goes in off the left post from a corner as Rayo took the lead on 33 minutes.
The Barca side went into overdrive to pull level in the second half but Didac Vila from point-blank range was denied by Stole Dimitrievski but earned a corner.
Chinese debutant and January import Wu Lei gave the home side the chance to level after Emiliano Velazquez brought him down and Prieto Iglesias didn’t hesitate to show him a yellow card and point to te spot andDimitrievski couldn’t stop the penalty from Borja Iglesias.
With the clock running out Sergi Darder struck the left post but wasn’t to be denied in the fifth minute of stoppage time as his sweet half volley strike found the bottom left corner for the win.
