Real Madrid win in derby to move back into title race
Real Madrid came out top in the Madrid derby against Atletico with a 3-1 win to move to within 5 points of La Liga Santander leaders Barcelona who have a game in hand.
Casemiro had given Santiago Solari’s side the lead with an overhead kick from the corner on 16 minutes but Antoine Griezmann pulled Atleti level nine minutes later after latching onto Angel Correa’s through pass but Sergio Ramos penalty before the halftime break after Vinicius Junior was brought down.
Gareth Bale added the third in the second half after Luka Modric through pass for a finish into the right bottom corner on 74 minutes to seal a 3-1 win for Los Blancos.
Speaking after the match Sergio Ramos:
“It was very a complete performance from us and I think that the result is fair.
“I thought our performance was very intelligent and now the league is still to be fought for.
“There are many points up for grabs and any team can cause problems, as was seen in the first half of the season.
“We have hope and are going to fight for three competitions.
“The league motivates us and we want to continue fighting for it and make life difficult for Barcelona.”
