Gor Mahia ease past Zamalek

Nairobi-Gor Mahia eased past giant of El Zamalek to kick start their CAF Confederations Cup with a 4-2 win and take the lead in Group D in a match staged at the MISC Kasarani. 

Zamalek went ahead after seven minutes through Egypt’s Ibrahim Hassan who struck from outside the box after a clearance from a corner.

Gor equalized with Tuyisenge scoring the first of his two goals 18 minutes later after a cutback header for the Rwandese striker to play a one-two with Francis Kahata.

The Rwanda international found the net again with a 38th-minute header to put the Kenyan side 2-1 up, but Ibrahim Hassan, who scored again Zamalek’s opener, pouncing on a through pass to make it 2-2 going into the break.

Nicholas Kipkirui header made it 3-2 to Gor after 51 minutes, and the hosts extended the lead through Dennis Oliech in the later stages of the game to make it a 4-2 win for the Kenyan premier league champions.

K’Ogalo top of Group D on goal difference at ahead of Algerian club NA Hussein Dey who beat and Angola’s Petro Atletico 2-1.

The Algiers club took a two-goal lead through Mohamed Amine Tougai and Walid Allati before Vladimiro ‘Va’ Felix reduced arrears for the visiting Angolan side.
