Benitez expecting good news
NEWCASTLE UNITED manager Raphael Benitez had a double cause for celebration last night as they claimed a 2-1 win over Premier League champions Manchester City and good news on the transfer front with three deals close.
The Magpies pulled five points clear of the relegation zone as second-half goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie comeback win after going down within a minute to Sergio Aguero’s goal.
However, on the transfer front wasn’t looking good until late today with Benitez confirming of good news with Full-back Antonio Barreca, Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron and the loan signing of Andreas Samaris from Benfica.
“Before the game, I was told that we were progressing with some names,” said Benitez,
“We have to analyse everything, and if it is right, it will be good news for us. The main thing is that we sign what we need. It doesn’t matter about the price, we just have to be sure that we can sign some players who will help us to stay up. That is the main thing.”
“I knew before the game that we were trying to do things, but I didn’t know how close we were,” added Benitez. “Now, I know we are closer, so hopefully we will have some good news tomorrow and that means we can have more competition in the squad. That will be positive for the rest of the season, for sure.”
