Schalke held away to Hertha Berlin
Schalke were held to a 2-2 draw against hosts Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga with Yehven Konoplyanka and Mark Uth scored for Schalke, while Marko Grujic and Vedad Ibisevic scored Hertha’s goals.
Domenico Tedesco: “Our opponents played with a lot of tempo and played well down the flanks,”
“They are also strong in the air and fight well for the second ball.
“We want to focus on our own game,” said the 33-year-old added to the club website.
“We have a new dynamism and new self-confidence. We want to fulfil our potential on the pitch. We want to improve every week.” However, the head coach does not feel more pressure than usual to claim points. “We are under pressure in every game. Pressure is nothing unusual because we want to win every game.”
Hertha boss Pal Dardai: “We began the game well, but didn’t defend well on the left-hand side. We should have defended their long-distance goal better. After that, we switched to a diamond and the game became a real fight. We could have won it, but so could Schalke. Unfortunately, we were always chasing the game, as we never led. We still worked hard though and will live with a 2-2 draw.
Schalke forward Mark Uth: “We played well tonight, just didn’t manage to get that third goal in the second half.
“Given our chances, I would say that this is two points dropped. Getting a point in Berlin is alright though, because it’s always hard to get a result here. We fought hard and played well, so we can move forward with that.
I’m obviously happy about every goal I score – it’s nice to start the new year like this. It was outstanding play from Bastian Oczipka that led to my goal. We want to make amends for the first half of the season and play nice football for our fans. We need to carry on like this!”
