St Etienne in cruel last minute loss in Derby
Saint Etienne were dealt a stoppage-time equaliser from Moussa Dembele header in the derby against Lyon as their visitors came back from a goal down to lose 2-1 in Ligue 1.
Loïc Perrin defender of Saint-Etienne, after the defeat against Lyon: “The scenario is cruel. It was a difficult match, committed, I think we played a good derby.
” It was tight, there were opportunities on both sides. But we do not have the right to lose it like that in the end … We have provided a lot of effort on this side, we have nothing to reproach ourselves. To take zero points is cruel. We play fast while the match is almost over, we were naive what! “
Saint-Étienne coach Jean-Louis Gasset: I knew this job was cruel, but today it’s a small K.-O. Losing at the last second, in the derby, it’s even harder. We did the game we wanted to do. I promised the fans that the state of mind would be there. We gave everything.
“There was a good match, good chances, two or three situations where we still wonder how we could not score. And then, there is the worst case scenario on the last ball in front of the goal. We feel frustrated because we deserve a draw.
“We knew how to undergo and counter. But we had a problem of efficiency. It’s hard. I will congratulate my players on Monday. We stood up to a team scheduled for the Champions League.
“The season is not over, there are still a lot of things to be done. But the characteristic of life is to recover from everything. “
