Gladbach boss thrilled with win at Leverkusen
Borussia Mochengladbach boss Dieter Hecking was thrilled with the 1-0 win over new Bayer Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz away at home with Alassane Plea netting the winner in the first half.
Alassane Plea: The goal was really well worked. Jonas drew the defenders out to him and passed to me at the right moment. Fortunately, I was able to find the back of the net. He told the club website
“It’s important for me to help out the team by scoring goals and it obviously feels good to score the winner. I haven’t got an exact figure in mind in terms of goals this season – I just want us to win as many games as possible.
“I also scored more goals away than I did at home for Nice. I can’t really explain it, but hopefully I will score plenty more yet at BORUSSIA-PARK”.
Dieter Hecking: We’re absolutely thrilled to have started with a win and I wouldn’t say that we didn’t deserve it. I like how hard my team fought today. He was quoted by the club side
“Nevertheless, it would have made things easier for us if we had kept hold of the ball more when Leverkusen were on top. If we had played out of the back a little better, then we would have had more space to counter into.
“Unfortunately, we gave the ball away too quickly. However, we did really well to defend our narrow lead until the final whistle. Leverkusen struggled to create clear-cut chances and that was down to the lads’ hard work”.
