Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre: “We’re extremely satisfied. That was a difficult game. The first half was okay, in the second half there were a lot of counters at both ends.

“We could’ve made it 2-0 because we had two major opportunities at the beginning of the second period. The team produced an excellent performance. It’s not easy here. It’s the first time this season that Leipzig have lost a home game.”

The goal scoring winner Axel Witsel: “We knew beforehand it’d be a difficult match, because Leipzig really put you under pressure. We began the game brightly but we no longer had as much possession in the second half.

“But we’re happy we managed to win this game. It’s very important to win the first match after the break. I’m delighted I could make a contribution with my goal.”
