Frankfurt start second half of Bundesliga in positive 3-1 win
Eintracht Frankfurt got their first three points in the after the winter break Bundesliga with a 3-1 win over Freiburg with three goals in nine minutes.
Frankfurt were on a two-game winless run in the Bundesliga and were out to keep a grip in the European spots and Sebastien Haller Spounced in the 36th minute after an Ante Rebic short corner routine that the Serbian sent into the box but was deflected high into the air for Haller to rise the highest and head home.
Three minutes later the home side went two goals up with Ante Rebic individual effort as the forward jinked his way across the middle of goal outside the box and feigned to find some space and curl into the back of the net from 25 yards.
With the halftime break approaching, Luka Jovic punished Freiburg defender Robin Koch whose attempted pass fell to the striker to run clean onto the box and stroke the ball past the visitor’s keeper to go 3-0 ahead into the break.
Christian Streich’s side improved in the second half and got a consolation through Jerome Gondorf cutback that Nils Petersen tapped home.
Jetro Willems was denied a fourth through VAR as his a shot from distance, which is deflected past Alexander Schwolow was cancelled for a foul during the phase of play.
