Lucien Favre reflects on tough 2-1 win in Schalke 04
Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre was in reflective mood following the 2-1 win at Ruhr derby which kept the Yellows and Black top of the table with nine points ahead of Bayern.
Lucien Favre told the club website: “It was a very difficult match for us, particularly in the first period. Schalke were very well organised and did their pressing and counter-pressing well. We didn’t have enough possession, didn’t create enough chances and only opened the scoring following a free-kick.
“I can’t comment on the penalty that made it 1-1 yet because I still haven’t seen the incident. If it was the right decision, then we completely accept that. But the team stayed in the game.
“I liked that. We continued to play football and played even better, we had more possession and more goalscoring chances. It was important that we kept our cool. We ultimately deserved to win the game. We had more possession, more opportunities to score, but it’s always difficult to play against such teams.”
Schalke 04 director Christian Heidel said.
“Until 1: 2 it was a game on the knife edge. We got off to a good start and scored the 1: 1. After the second goal it was very difficult for us. Dortmund then just played it very confidently. You have to acknowledge that, “says Heidel. Nevertheless, annoying him the emergence of the crucial door. “We made a midfield mistake before the second goal. We were bitterly punished for that, “said the sports director.
