Watford goal scoring winner talks of tough times

London, England-Tom Cleverley scored the winner as Watford enjoyed a 2-1 comeback win against Crystal Palace, as the midfielder returns from an injury that kept him away for almost half the season.

“I didn’t have much time to enjoy it because I knew they’d come at us again at 2-1 with 15 minutes still to play, but after the game, what a relief!” said Cleverley to the club website.

“It’s been a tough year, and to score the winner in an important game it feels like a lot of the hard work has paid off.”

The midfielder has steadily been eased back into action, and after completing 90 minutes against Woking in the FA Cup last weekend, he came off the bench here to score the winner.

“I’ve just got to keep doing the right things” said Cleverley. “Even though I’m back fit now I’ve got to be patient – the lads in my position have been doing fantastically, and I’ll continue to train well. When you work that hard then it pays off at times like it did today.

”The most important thing is the win today, but for me personally it’s a really big reward for what’s been a tough year.”
