Mohammed Salah has been crowned the African player of the year for the second year in a row since former Liverpool winger El Hadji Diouf achieved the same fete.
“I have dreamt of winning this award since I was a child and now I have done so twice in a row,” Salah said.
The Egyptian forward was voted the winner at the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) 2018 awards ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday.
Salah edged out his Liverpool teammate and Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and Arsenal and Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the gong.
The Egyptian bagged 44 goals for Liverpool during the 2017-18 season, helping the Reds to the Champions League final before scoring twice for Egypt at the World Cup in Russia.
So far this season he has scored 16 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool this season.
