Mathare United hold on in 2-1 win at Posta Rangers

Mathare United climbed the top of the sportpesa Kenya premier league with a hard-fought 2-1 win over hosts Posta Rangers at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Man of the match Kevin Kimani threatened the Posta Rangers goal firing a shot at the edge of the box from Nyakeya pass but his effort flashes wide of the left upright. However, the former player of the year was on target from a free kick after Jerry Santos foul on the outside “D” to curl into the back of the net on 20 minutes.
Kimani was at the centre of the second on 53 minutes as his free-kick was headed towards goal by David Situma and parried by Rangers keeper Levis Opiyo but fell for Nyakeya to tap it home.
The mailmen deservedly pulled one back with Ongeri reacting quickest to Okello parried Kago’s shot into his path after a rocket shot had come off the crossbar.
The slum boys move to ten points in the KPL and face KCB FC while Sammy Omollo’s boys face AFC Leopards have three points in the league.
