Everton has dedicated the 5-1 win at Burnley to the Toffees fans as the club hit back after the 6-2 demolition at home to Tottenham Hotspurs.

The win was Everton’s biggest away from home in the league since a 5-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday in September 1985 in the league with Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne double stunners, a spot-kick from Gylfi Sigurdsson before Ben Gibson headed a consolation and  Richarlison late goal.

Silva was delighted with the performance and thanked the fans who travelled with the club on away matches.

“The way our fans supported our team was really important,” he said. “They deserved the three points and this win, and so did our players. He was quoted by the club website.

“The fans applauded our team as we came onto the pitch. I know they always do because they are always supporting us, but it was a tough result to take last time.

“We started really well, whether that was from our planning or the players preparing their minds well, and it is a difficult place to come to.

“The performance was really good in some moments and in others it was not so easy to play. We knew when we prepared for this match that Burnley like to play in some moments and make it really difficult for their opponents to control the game. They put in many challenges and played a more direct style of football, playing off second balls.

“We blocked them in those moments and competed for those second balls as well. In some moments we played good football, too, and it is important if you can score early. This afternoon we were really effective in the first 25 minutes.”
